Amidst Identities -
My influence comes directly from my Filipino Culture and its strict need to follow public social principles. This fundamental upbringing clashes with my new acceptance of America’s individualist culture. Whereas my culture would stress conformism and the submission of women, the American culture is more concerned about deviating from social norms and the empowerment of women.
My work is an examination of identity and the identity and perceptions we project to society. What interests me the most is the contradictions and moral dilemmas that we face during social interactions and the precarious balance of social acceptance while trying to preserve the individual.
